How to print a PDF near me
A PDF is the easiest file to get printed anywhere, because it looks the same on every machine. The only question is which machine.
The one-click way on a Mac
Install Print@ once. From then on, open the PDF in Preview or any app, choose Print, pick Print@ Nearby as the printer, and click Print. A window finds the nearest place that prints, shows you the choice, sends the file the way that shop or library accepts it, and emails you a pickup code and address. The file is deleted from Print@ as soon as the job is delivered.
The two-minute way from anywhere
Find a place with the directory or a maps search, then:
- Email the PDF to the shop or library printer with copies and the pickup name in the subject.
- Upload it on the shop's order page.
- Carry it on a USB stick to a kiosk.
Which place for which PDF
- A page or two: library or hotel desk.
- A report with a cover: print shop or chain, ask for a staple or a spiral bind.
- A poster: a shop with wide-format printing; most libraries cannot.
- Anything confidential: a shop that prints while you wait.
Make the PDF print well
Export at actual size; do not shrink to fit unless the shop asks. Embed fonts (exporting from any modern app does this). Check the page size matches the local paper. If it has form fields, flatten it so the values print.
Print@ does this from the Print dialog on a Mac: pick Print@ Nearby, and it finds the closest shop or public printer, sends the file, and gives you a pickup code. From a phone, send a file to a Print@ Network shop.
